A group of people are buying furniture from the local store, and selling it for Rs 2 lakh per unit.
They are making it into furniture for themselves, they say.
They have been doing this for years.
The group of men who have started the furniture business says they were approached by some of their neighbours.
“They said, ‘We want to get furniture for you for Rs 10 lakh and you are going to pay for it’,” said Anand, who has been working in the business for the last three years.
A few months ago, they got a call from the owner of the furniture shop who was asking for their money.
He asked them to meet him at a local hospital and give them the furniture.
“I said, okay, I will pay for your furniture,” Anand said.
So far, they have sold more than 20,000 units of furniture, with the owner paying a monthly rent of Rs 25,000.
But they are struggling to make a profit.
“We have sold furniture in India for less than Rs 2,000 and we are still paying for it.
We have to find a way to make our profit,” Anander said.
He said his furniture business was starting to struggle after he had started selling furniture in the same locality.
“There is nothing here.
It is like we are going from village to village, selling and selling,” he said.
